Choosing a Yacht by the Number of Guests
The first consideration is how many people you’d like to invite. You can’t necessarily judge the yacht’s capacity by the size or footage of the vessel. Check for “maximum capacity,” which ranges from about a dozen people to over 1,200. The U.S. Coast Guard certifies yacht capacities. As a general rule, boats less than 100 feet long accommodate 100 or fewer guests, while vessels over 100 feet accommodate more than 100 (and sometimes over 1,000) passengers.
Choosing a Yacht by the Type of Event
The type of event and activities you plan should guide you in choosing a yacht with the most suitable amenities. For example, if the highlight of your boat cruise will be viewing the landscape, select a yacht with ample observation decks. Weddings, birthday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, and other parties are well served by generous dance floors. If you plan to overnight on the craft, look for amble staterooms, and be sure the number of bathrooms will easily accommodate your guests.
Choosing a Yacht by the Length of the Event
Private yacht charters typically last between four hours and twenty-four hours. For shorter cruises, look for a vessel that provides amble lounging area, stocked bars, and dance floors. When planning for longer cruises, select a yacht with plenty of restrooms, outside space, comfortable climate control, and a crew sufficient to meet the needs of your guests for an extended time.
