Is There Such Thing as Too Many Bridesmaids?

Selecting the bridal party is undoubtedly one of the most exciting aspects of the wedding planning process. If you are like most people, you might be considering having close friends or family members make up part of your bridal team. However, for various reasons, it might be untenable or impractical to include every female friend or acquaintance in your bridal party, especially if you are trying to make things work under financial constraints. So this begs the question, how many people should you include in your bridal party?
Well, we believe that the number of people you select to be bridesmaids at your wedding is entirely up to you. Which essentially means you can have as many or as few people as you like. Here are some of the reasons why this is the case:

There are No Rules That Prescribe the Number of Bridesmaids at Weddings

Contrary to what many people may tell you, there are actually no rules that dictate the ideal number of bridesmaids. Under normal circumstances, the number of bridesmaids (and groomsmen) at a wedding is determined by how large the wedding is. This means that a large wedding with an attendance of over 2000 people will typically have more bridesmaids than one with a hundred or so guests. However, this is rather arbitrary, and is not anchored by any immutable matrimony laws. You are therefore at liberty to have as many or as few people in your bachelorette party, depending on how comfortable you feel about it.

It’s Not Absolutely Necessary to Have an Equal Number of Attendants as Your Partner

If you have attended any weddings in the past, you may have noticed that the number of bridesmaids and groomsmen tends to be matched. This might lead you to think that this is a rule that needs to be observed. The truth of the matter, however, is that the tradition of having an equal number of bridesmaids and groomsmen in weddings is purely a matter of aesthetics. People love to see a bridesmaid and groomsman matching down the aisle hand in hand because it perfectly accentuates the mood of the event. However, there is no rule that dictates that this must happen at every wedding. As a matter of fact, odd pairings are now becoming more normal and acceptable. So, even if your attendants are not evenly matched, your wedding will still be awesome.

You Shouldn’t Select Someone Who You Do Not Want

When it comes to choosing members of your bridesmaids team, there is always pressure on the bride and groom to include everyone. However, you should remember that ultimately, this is a celebration of love between two people. So, being selected as a member of a bridal party is an honor rather than a right. Therefore, you should only select individuals that you want, rather than feel pressured to include people you may feel are unworthy, simply to appear agreeable. It is your special day after all. So, you call the shots!

It’s Still Okay to Not Have Any Bridesmaids at your Wedding

As shocking as it might sound, there’s actually nothing wrong in having a wedding without bridesmaids. If you feel like none of the people you know is a perfect fit for the role, you can opt to walk down the aisle without a team of bridesmaids in tow, and your wedding will still be amazing. While some people might be appalled at this, their opinion really doesn’t matter in the end. Your wedding is yours to make after all.

In Conclusion

There are no hard or fast rules when it comes to the number of attendants you ought to have in your bridal team. Whether you choose to have many, few or none at all, you will be happy in the end as long as you follow your heart and choose what’s best for you!
