The Best Tips For Flower Girls and Ring Bearers

Flower girls and ring bearers are the icing-on-the-cake of every wedding ceremony. And being kids, they are naturally adorable and you don’t need to do anything more than kit them up in nice-fitting clothes that also compliment the wedding’s theme.

Nonetheless, there are still some additional things you may want to do if you want your flower girls and ring bearers to really add value to the event.

Age is Not Just a Number

It is generally recommended to go with ring bearers who are at least 4 years old, and no more than 8. For flower girls, the ideal ages are between 3 and 8. At these ages, both the boys and girls are old enough to follow instructions and do what’s expected of them but still young enough to produce some adorable photo ops.

Give Age-Appropriate Duties

Being really young, and inherently careless, flower girls and ring bearers should not have any vital roles to play in the ceremony. So, for instance, instead of giving the ring bearer the real wedding rings to carry, get him an identical duplicate.

That way, you can enjoy the adorable moments as he walks down the aisle without worrying about him losing the actual ring, which should be carried by a more responsible party like the Best Man. For flower girls, you can have them scatter bubbles and confetti instead of actual blooms.

Give Them a Full Prep

Many people tend to think that being kids, ring bearers, and flower girls only need to be shown how to do their duties well and everything will fall into place. Although this may work sometimes, it is not always the best course of action.

We strongly believe that including the young ones in all the key wedding planning events, especially the final rehearsal dinner, will make for an even better experience. In these events, introduce them to the rest of the wedding party and remind them that they’ll have people watching (and cheering them on) as they walk the aisle during the big day, just like it was in the rehearsal.

The Clothes Make the Boy/Girl

We won’t get into much detail on the specific attires you should get for your flower girls and ring bearers as there are countless articles written on that. We have, however, some basic guidelines we think are important when it comes to this issue:

  • Depending on the formality of the ceremony, you can dress the ring bearers in anything from full tuxes to captain’s uniforms. The general rule of thumb is to keep the colors darker in normal times, and brighter in the summer.
  • It is okay for flower girls to wear identical dresses with the bride, or any white dress. If this is not an option in your case, have them at least match with the bridesmaids.
